At the bottom of this page, you can find a PDF that we're posting, in response to the EPA mandate that U.S. municipalities notify their citizens of any violations of regulations that are in place.
Here is what this notification is and what it is not.
The notification informs that we missed a deadline in some recently updated regulations requiring inventorying and reporting on over 1,500 water service lines in the Village of Saugerties. This task hits hardest on small municipalities like us, versus larger cities and town. In addition to the number of lines, as a Village, we have 125 years or so of records to inspect and factor into the work to satisfy the EPA.
We are confident we will complete these inventory/reporting tasks by the August 31, 2025 deadline shown in the PDF. Once the inventory is completed, we will notify any customers whose homes may have service lines that contain lead or are of unknown material, as required.
So to be clear ... this is a notification of missing an inventorying and reporting deadline.
Lead and copper are mentioned, because the report focuses on recent lead and copper regulation revisions.
This is not in any way a report that the Village of Saugerties drinking water is in violation of lead content guidelines. As you may know, we produce (typically each May ... for the prior calendar year) a drinking quality water report for the Village of Saugerties.
Your water is safe, and lead levels have not exceeded any action levels.
We have had a lead and copper corrosion control plan in place for many years and have been routinely testing for lead and copper in our drinking water since federal regulations began in the early 1990s. Since testing began, we have not had any violations related to lead or copper levels in your drinking water.
If you would like additional information on the lead and copper rule, please see the EPA link below.
