Description: Kevin Brown heads a team of 2 full-time employees and 6 part-time, seasonal employees, who are committed to keeping the Village of Saugerties' buildings, parks and grounds safe and well maintained.
Responsibilities: This department is responsible for upkeep at all the parks in the Village:
- Lions Club Playground (including a wading pool for summertime use) at Washington Avenue
- Saugerties Village Beach at the bottom of Partition Street
- Tina Chorvas Waterfront Park at the bottom of East Bridge Street
- Seamon Park at 5 Malden Avenue in Saugerties.
The department also tends to the C. A. Lynch Firehouse on Hill Street, the Village Firehouse and Village Offices on Partition Street and Donlon Auditorium (upstairs from the 43 Partition Street Village Offices).
This department has played a key role in the Saugerties Village Beautification program, and they handle seasonal flower boxes at numerous street corners and the hanging flower baskets on Victorian lamp posts in the historic business district.
The department is best known for their Fall chrysanthemum plantings at Seamon Park, which culminates in the October Mum Festival (usually held on the first Sunday in October). They transform the park each December, working with the Saugerties Kiwanis Club to decorate the grounds with a spectacular holiday lighting display, including a Blue Spruce that towers over 65 feet.
The Trustee responsible for Parks, Buildings and Grounds is Brian Martin.
