Biography:

A Village Justice typically presides over matters within the jurisdiction of a Village Justice Court, such as traffic cases, small claims, eviction proceedings, misdemeanors and violations.

Robert Rightmyer is presently serving his tenth term as Village Justice.

He has served as Village Justice since 1985.  A lifelong Village resident, he owns and operates The Rightmyer Agency, a real estate brokerage firm in the Village.  He is a member of both the New York State Magistrates Association and the Ulster County Magistrates Association.  Bob has long been involved in service to the Village.  He has served as a Trustee on the Village Board for three years, serving as the Commissioner of Public Works.

Prior to that, he served nearly fours years as a Police Officer with the Saugerties Village Police Department.  He has also served on the Town of Saugerties Economic Development Committee.  In addition, he is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Better Community Housing in Saugerties and a member of the Board of Directors of the Saugerties Cemetery Association.

Over the last twenty four years as Village Justice he has seen the workload of the Court increase dramatically. To offset the costs to the Village taxpayers he has tried to ensure that all sentences for community service be completed at worksites within the Village.  During his service as Village Justice he has computerized the court operations and obtained all the current computer equipment from the State, at no cost to the Village taxpayers.
