The Kingston High School Varsity
and Junior Varsity Hockey Club has openings for boys and girls in grades 8 through
12 All high school students in Ulster County and parts of Greene County area are
welcome to try out for the team.
Practices are twice per week
starting the first Wednesday after the Labor Day at the Kiwanis Ice Arena in Saugerties.
The season starts in September and ends in
March. Each team plays 18 to 20 games per
season along with local tournaments.
All of the coaches are USA Hockey
certified and are governed by the Hudson Valley League. The Hudson Valley League board members oversee
10 high school teams, which compete for the top eight positions at the end of the
season for playoffs. All games are played
at three local rinks, Kiwanis, Mid-Hudson
Civic Center,
and Ice Time. The teams that Kingston plays against are: FDR, Arlington,
John Jay, Hendrick Hudson, Ketchum, Washingtonville, Orange County West, and Cornwall. Each team must sign and agree to the zero tolerance
rule and abide by the decisions made by the Hudson Valley League. The top teams will be able to compete for USA
Hockey sanctioned large and small school NY state tournaments.
The
Kingston team also
participates in all star competitions, alumni games, community service opportunities,
and college scholarship programs. The club
board members are available to assist the players in meeting the cost of joining
the team. For those players interested in
