![]() With the Catskill Mountains as its backdrop, HITS-ON-THE-HUDSON is a
beautiful place to spend the day. The world-class facility is owned and managed
by HITS, Inc., the largest producer of Hunter/Jumper horse shows in the country,
and holds seven weeks of competitions between May and September each year. Host
to some of the world's most prestigious equestrian events, including a past
Rolex/USEF National Show Jumping Championship, past Junior Hunter
Finals, and the Marshall & Sterling League Finals, the facility has
quickly become an important venue in the equestrian world. On average, the
weekly attendance at the 200+ acre show grounds is 2,000 horses and 5,000
horsemen. Equestrians, as well as spectators with little or no knowledge of the sport, come to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and a day of watching impressive athletes compete in thrilling events. With numerous classes competing in ten rings simultaneously, spectators always have several exciting events to choose from. All the rings have grass and bleacher seating, and the facility is handicapped accessible. Merchants at a diverse array of indoor and outdoor shops and booths offer unique jewelry, gifts, clothing, accessories, and souvenirs that will appeal to horsemen and non-equestrians alike. Diners can enjoy an international menu at HITS Bar & Grill, either in the casual dining room, or on a shaded patio that offers an unobstructed view of the warm-up rings. For a schedule of events, visit the HITS Saugerties Web Site or see the Saugerties Village Web Calendar on this site.
Generally, the events are free during weekdays and occasionally there is a nominal charge of $5 for weekend attendance/parking. (The money for weekend attendance is donated to Family of Woodstock.)
