Departments
The Village of Saugerties Police Department has been in existence since 1855. One hundred forty nine years later, the department continues to provide round-the-clock police services to the residents of the Village of Saugerties. Standard motorized patrols are supplemented by foot patrols in the Village's historic Business District, as well as specialized bicycle patrols.
The department is charged with the protection of the Village's 3500 citizens, as well as crime prevention, public relations/education, and specialized enforcement details. In addition to general law enforcement, a key facet of the mission of the department is homeland security, and the prevention of terrorism within our borders. Many of the department's staff have received extensive training in counter-terrorism, and the entire Department stands ready to protect the public from acts of terrorism.
